Green Pepper — Capsicum annuum
Green pepper plants are sun lovers and need at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Plant during Spring or Summer. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate, which usually takes about 5 – 10 days. Once the seedlings have emerged, thin them to 30cm apart. Water the plants deeply and regularly, especially during hot weather.
Green peppers are susceptible to a variety of pests and diseases, so it is important to take steps to protect them. You can do this by planting resistant varieties, rotating crops, and practicing good garden hygiene. Stake the plants if they are tall and leggy. Green peppers are ready to harvest when they are firm and bright green.
They can be eaten raw, cooked, or pickled. They are a good source of vitamins A and C and can be used in a variety of dishes, such as salads, stir-fries, and soups. They can also be used to make sauces, chutneys, and pickles. Green Peppers are actually a fruit because they are produced from a flower.
